For pool owners in California the current drought and its effect on pool water evaporation is a big issue. It is no secret that the state of California is in desperate need of rain.  Well, the rain gods have answered our prayers with the rising possibility of a generous El Niño. The LA Times reported earlier this week that El Niño is expected to bring greater than average amounts of rainfall this season, which in turn will dramatically help out the state’s water supply.   The drought is not expected to be eliminated by this heavy El Niño because California was so far behind in rainfall, but we will definitely see water levels rise.  Not only is Los Angeles and … Continue reading Pool Water Evaporation

Pool Gates – Tension Based Gates vs Stand-Alone Framed Gate

One of the most frequently asked questions is about our pool gates.  Customers want to know which swimming pool gate to install and why? We sell 2 types of pool gates at Pool Guard of LA, a tension based gate and a stand-alone framed gate. There are pros and cons to each type.   TENSION GATE FRAMED GATE The tension based pool gate uses tension to stay in place.  It is attached to rest of the pool fencing and when that is pulled taut the gate stays in place.  The downfall to this type of gate is that over a long period of time, due to the elements, the tautness of the pool fence will begin to lapse.  The upside … Continue reading Pool Gates – Tension Based Gates vs Stand-Alone Framed Gate

What good is a pool safety fence if the gate doesn’t get closed?  Not good at all!  At PGLA all of our gates are self-closing, self-latching and lockable.  This will ensure that no matter what, the gate gets closed and latched.  You won’t have to worry that the kids or dogs can push open the gate and access the pool.  Our gates meet all state requirements for daycares, adoptions and new construction. Happy Swimming!

We have been in a long standing drought here in California, and we need to do our part in trying to conserve water. Proper maintenance and protection for your pool plays a major role in water conservation.  Here are a few tips on how to maximize your pool’s water: Get a pool safety cover. Pool safety covers drastically help reduce water evaporation, meaning you don’t have fill up your pool as often. Don’t fill your pool up too high. You will loose a lot of water from splashing if your pool is filled up too high. Lower the heat. If you heat your pool in the winter, lower the temperature to help reduce water evaporation. Use plants. Plant shrubs as … Continue reading Swimming Pool Water Conservation Tips

ISR Self Rescue Technique

The ISR (INFANT SWIMMING RESOURCE) is a survival technique designed for children 6 months to 6 years.  The foundation of the program teaches children life saving skills for survival.  Children are taught to hold their breath underwater, turn onto their back, and float unassisted.  After the age of 1, children are then taught a swim-float sequence to reach the pool’s edge, where they can climb out. You can find a trained ISR instructor in your area to teach one-on-one lessons to your child.  Not only will your child learn to save themselves when wearing a swim suit, but also fully clothed, as most accidents happen when children are dressed.  Please note, that there is no substitute for parental supervision.  The … Continue reading ISR Self Rescue Technique
